The Descent Project

 

For this project I generated two themes for myself; those turned out to be 'caves' and 'mushrooms'. I was quickly inspired by my favorite horror movie 'The Descent'.

The mushroom design I chose to go with for my illustration. The shape resembles that of an ear, particularly the 'Crawler's' ears (the cave dwelling monsters in 'The Descent').

Eventually I realized my themes were still too broad, so I added a new rule: the mushrooms in question have to glow red in the dark. 


That's when my concept art phase really started taking more direction.
