NASA poster

As one of my client projects at school, I got to design a poster for NASA surrounding the theme of supernovas and organizing an event around such a celestial phenomenon. It should be noted that NASA wasn't officially my client.

Concepts

After expansive research into NASA's visuals as well as the visuals of other companies and organizations, I began developing concepts of my own.

Concept 1 - festival

As part of my research, I looked into how festivals organized their event. Festivals like Burning Man, for example. I was thinking about designing a poster announcing a festival where people would gather for music, food, community, and the ultimate show of a supernova.

Concept 2 - filmposter

While researching NASA, I quickly discovered they built a whole librabry of stunning posters throughtout the years. Some of these posters are stylized in such a way that they look like classic horrormovie posters. In this idea, people would come together to watch a movie about supernovas and learn about it.

Concept 3 - space excursion

Space tourism is still extremely niche and up and coming, however that could very well change in the future. My futuristic idea was that NASA would organize a space excursion in light of a supernova. People would be able to watch the spectacle from a safe distance in outer space.

Ultimately the client picked the filmposter idea as the one they wanted to see realized, so I got to working.

I made three poster concepts, of which the client picked the one on the left. With this choice made, I began rendering and polishing it further.

Experimenting with tagline fonts. The placement of the tagline eventually changed as well.

Experimenting with title fonts.

Experimenting with font colours and positioning.

Stickersheet

As part of the project, we had to design merchandise for the event. My research concluded that most people of my target audience would like a stickersheet as part of participating in the event.
